Australia Student Visa

Below are the Australian student visa options available to Sri Lankan students.

Student visa (Subclass 500)

The Student visa (subclass 500) permits you to stay in Australia for up to 5 years to study full-time at an accredited academic institution in accordance with your enrollment.

You can bring family members to Australia with you on this visa. Primary school students in years 1-4 will typically be awarded a student visa for a maximum of three years.

If your student visa expires before your graduation, you may be able to obtain a Visitor visa (subclass 600). You will require a document from your education provider stating your graduation date.

Visas to bring your family to Australia

When submitting your visa application, you may list family members. In the case of student visas, your family member is:

your spouse, or
your or your spouse's unmarried children under the age of 18

We cannot provide a student visa to your child if they are over the age of 18 at the time your visa is approved. They must obtain their own visa.

Post-Study Work stream - Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)

The visa is intended for overseas students who have just graduated from an Australian institution. It allows you to temporarily live, work, and study in Australia.

Your stay in Australia will be determined by the level of your Australian study certification.

2 years for a bachelor's degree (including honors).
3 years for a master's degree by research and a master's degree by coursework.
4 years for a doctorate

When you apply, you can include members of your family unit in your application. Applicants' family members must fulfill our health and character standards.
